Our team’s history

Robo Troopers have been running since 2018. Here is some of the interesting facts


Robo Troopers FTC team was formed in Woodbridge, Virginia by two friends Rajeev (Raj) Mehra and Anish Senan. They served as 2 mentors and the team was comprised of 5 members: 2 girls and 3 boys, all were middle schoolers.

The team was extremely successful that year. They were Virginia state champions (Winning alliance captain) and attended the FIRST word championships at Detroit.

Team members went to different high schools. Neil joined Thomas Jefferson High School and joined their FTC team Robot Uprising. Neil and mentor Raj left the team moved to Herndon. Robo Troopers recruited a couple of more members, Josh and (under construction)

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most of FTC tournaments were run remotely. The team tried their best in this difficult time.

Most of the team members were pursuing other interests. Team’s parents graciously offered Mentor Raj to take over the team and continue the team with his younger son – Sonny. Raj recruited from Sonny’s school – Rachel Carson Middle School in Herndon, VA. A brand new team was formed with 10 students. 8 boys and 2 girls. All were 8th graders, one was 7th. Team got an excellent start with their robot performing exceeding well in the qualifiers. They were ranked among the top three teams in VA and MD. At one point in the season they were ranked the #1 team in VA by FTC stats website.
